Ordained Minister
Rev. Kim Curlett
ECM is blessed by the gifts of the Spirit shared through Reverend Kim Curlett. She welcomes visitors and newcomers with wisdom and faith. She shares the traditions of our church and the love of God as made known to us in these current times.
From Rev. Curlett:
In the fall of 2012, as part of a yoga teacher training course, I developed a mantra for myself. The exercise was to form a sort of personal mission statement. “I surrender to the will of God and fearlessly trust the Divine to lead me” were the words that chose me. Living into those words has changed my life. Since then, I do my best to listen for the Spirit and follow wherever it leads me. I feel so blessed that it has lead me to you.
Ministry was not my first choice for a career. In fact, it wasn’t really on my radar! I have been an active member of the United Church of Canada my whole life, but minister? -never thought I was suited for such a thing, so I went about living my life. I graduated as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in 1994 and worked in that field exclusively until 2009 when I opened a yoga studio in Dartmouth. After hearing my call to ordained ministry in 2012, I set to work on selling my studio while attending Saint Mary’s University. I graduated with a degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies in 2015 and later that year started studying at Atlantic School of Theology. I graduated with a Master of Divinity in 2018. I have served in ministry as a student since the summer of 2015. I worked in different capacities in many United Churches in HRM. I have been the Student Appointed minister to Rawdon Hills United Church since January of 2018 and I also currently serve as the minister of spiritual care at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church. These part-time appointments end the day before I begin my call with you!
I am a single mom to two incredible kids. They are members of Woodlawn United Church in Dartmouth and attend Sunday morning worship there with my family including their amazing dad. You will get to meet my kids at events as they love church! I still practice and teach yoga and meditation and it is an active part of my ministry in many ways. My kids and I also have a passion for the outdoors and love to camp, hike, cycle, and kayak. We have two cats and a dog. It is a wonderful busy life.
My journey to being called to be your minister has had many twists and turns and through all of them I have grown as a person and been formed as a minister in this United Church of ours. I look forward to sharing my passion for ministry with you and can’t wait to continue the work of building and nurturing relationships within this congregation and with the surrounding community. Together we will make a real difference in this community and in the world.
In the Peace and Love of Christ,
Rev. Kim Curlett
